History
The White Horse company were originally formed around a group of White Scars legionaries, led by the Terran-born officer Tchondax Jagi. Isolated at the outset of the heresy on a forward scouting mission, Jagi’s company were contacted first by delegates from the Sons of Horus legion, who very nearly rallied them to the Warmaster’s cause. Perhaps luckily, a consul librarian amongst the Sons of Horus named Hexan suffered a series of apocalyptic visions and became convinced that both his legion and the loyalists were on destructive paths. Hexan deserted with a tiny handful of legionaries who had been his gang-mates on Cthonia, but not before persuading Jagi and a substantial core of his most trusted warriors to join him even as the remaining White Scars fell in with the traitors.
Taking a mythological Terran monster as his sigil, Jagi and the newly-named White Horse company dropped communications with both sides of the conflict and refused to commit to either cause. They drifted inwards, perhaps vaguely aiming for Jagi’s homeword of Terra, perhaps simply drawn to the fires of war. Soon other disillusioned and betrayed legionaries swelled their ranks, and they became opportunistic mercenaries, stubbornly clinging to their old rationalist ideals even in the face of the new horrors they witnessed.
