Battle Summary

Maximilian was hungry for glory in the halls of the void station. Spurred on by Gerhardt's seeming retreat with a lone servo skull, the Delagatus was quick to reassemble his own strike team and head out on patrol. He brought with him a large body guard of Breachers under the command of Veteran Cord, as well was the repaired Brother Gregor.

The breachers swept forward, following their thin auspex readings, leaving Gregor as a rear guard. They knew now to expect traitor Astartes, World Eaters, in these dark halls, but they did not foresee how much trouble they could find. Things started to go poorly almost immediately. While the Breachers extended further into the depths, Gregor moved to investigate anomalous sounds near his position. He was met by another of his kind. A massive contemptor, firing his Assault Cannons as soon as Gregor turned a corner. The thing was charging forward as it fired, and Gregor returned in kind with his fist mounted Graviton Guns. The distortions wrecked havoc amounts the cargo in the hold, slowing the advance of both machines. Just as Gregor was closing he heard his fatal mistake. The revving chainfists and brutish laughing. Terminators exploded through a nearby door, tearing into Gregor. As they tore chunks from his armor the World Eater's Contemptor sauntered away. A much more patient hunter than his wholly organic kin.

The Breacher team had found their quarry, but knew that it would do them little good. The mass of fire that was soon spit at them tore several marines apart. Worse, the only answer the squad had to the threat was to sacrifice their defensive advantage and try and bring the monster down with power fist and melta charges. Losing nearly half their number, they were able to do so, but not before seeing their doom approach in the darkness. The smiling madmen wore Cataphractii plate, white and red. And more red, blood dripping from hands and mouths. They tore into the Breachers, who in the darkness were unable to even bring their guns to bear.

Only the Delagatus was able to give a report from this incident. Found crawling on stumps away from the melee hours after the World Eaters had retreated the positions, called away by their violent whims to some other fight. Maximilian will be remade with augmetics, but in censure will no longer take part in direct military actions. As soon as a limb is grown for him, he will take to wearing the Pain Glove until he learns caution.
