The Iron Tenth was increasing the efforts to annihilate the traitors from Thungur Metallicos. After the death of the overambitious Praetor Eisen Hohlkopf got a field promotion to praetorship he considered well earned. Everybody under his command was convinced it would be revoced as soon as they joined the fleet again.
As the pressure from the traitorous legions was mounting Eisen did not only get replacements but use of the secret project in the pipeline for some months. The praetor could lead one of only three individuals extracted from the raid on the Emperors Children Frigate „Joy“. This specimen was titeled Ferrus Manu(s) b, created as a clone of the primarch by the cursed Apothecary Fabius Bile. As imposing as the late Ferrus Manus the clone supposedly posessed much of the abilities of the original but was lacking in knowledge and finesse.
Eisen led his troops from the miller district of Diabolisgaard south to counter a push made by the death guard. Land Raider Proteus „At them“ on the left flank reported contact with Death Guard units ahead. It preceded slowly to fire at a Sicaran Venetor in the back field, Eisen led the Gorgon terminators – shrunken to 7 – against a big squad of tacticals led by a Praetor and bolstered by a Chaplain. The heavy bolter squad pondered about shooting at a missile launcher squad hunkering in some ruins or shooting at a Rhino speeding on the left flank and decided on the heavy support team. Squad Vanadium advanced in its Rhino to give vital information to the tudd guns and the Whirlwind Scorpius to shoot at infantry and (eventually killing) the rapier laser destroyers in the center.
Ferrus Manu(s) advanced at the right to counter the threat of a hulking giant wrapped in smoke brandishing a big scythe. The fire fight proved advantageous for the Iron Hands as the opposing Sicaran could not withstanding the pounding received from the Land Raider even under the cover of darkness and the Death Guard did not manage the arduous drive of squad Vanadium to the back of the traitor formation to take out the Whirlwind Scorpius with bolt pistol fire to the back. Only the Sicaran on the right flank was lost to Death Guard Tacticals placing a melter bomb on the side. The rebel scum was punished by Ferrus Manu(s) b and pounded to dust in 3! rounds of combat.
The decicive action was taken place in the leftmost center when the big unit of tacticals charged the valiant Gorgons. Hammerbearer Zink took up the challenge of the foul traitor while Eisen tried to shoulder though the marines to come to grips with the foe. Zink did not manage to kill his adversary but the Death Guard was reduced in numbers. They held however due to the proximity of Mortarion. When the stragglers joined the fight the chaplain began pounding the Terminators but Eisen retaliated in kind while heroic Zink was beheaded by his challenger. Eisen stepped up to revenge his brother marine. The enemy tried to bring support forward and a Contemptor Cortus and 4 Death Shrouds who had taken a loss from the thud gun raced to join the fight. Consul Brom –leading the heavy bolter squad – had foreseen the trouble Eisen would get himself in and had ordered the breacher squad out of the Land Raider to counter the thread and they attacked and exploded the Cybot. The Death Shrouds changed their target end enveloped the Breachers in foul flames. The void armours held however and the traitorous terminaters proceeded to kill one Shield Bearer before being killed by lascutters and Thunder hammer right when the Praetor and his entourage were killed by the remains of Eisens squad.
During the fight in the center Mortarion after a slow start killed the attack bikes in the center and went on to kill the heavy weapons squad and the promising Centurion. Taking sporadic fire and healing the flesh wounds he somehow jumped tot he position of the Scorpios and demolished the veteran machine but was injured in the process. Ferrus Manu(s) had returned to the action and was racing to his genetic relative just as Eisen was turning his squad and the Breachers around to support the clone. The tudd guns could wound Mortarion slightly while the Eisen was tripping in the ruins close the Primarch and blocking the advance of Breachers. Ferrus on his own received a cut to his thigh before wounding his adversary with Anvilbreaker a weapon given to him when freed from the clutches of Fabius. Eisen tried to make sense of the vox chatter and he was glad when he surmised that Mortarion was the only Death Guard left alive in the vicinity when he saw the clone shatter the Primarch of the XIVth. Mortarion was teleported from their grasp the be revived and taken care of in his flagship.
Eisen was proud of himself.
