Battle Summary

The Iron Tenth was redeployed to the outskirts of Varingaheim and tasked with securing communication arrays in a sector covered in ruins of formerly proud imperial buildings. Scouting the perimeter the tactical support unit made visual contact with Marines wearing armour in the colours of the Dusk Raiders. Sergeant Faust voxed the Delegatus to request orders. As no loyalist presence was reported in the mission briefing Eisen halted the operation and ordered radio silence and stopping the motors. Squad Kalter Stahl advanced slowly in their Terminator armour and could get a glimpse of Grave Wardens on the other side of an ruined Insula atop a hill. They were led by the infamous Calas Typhon. After Eisen had deciphered the tapping from the Gorgon Terminators on the left flank he ended the radio silence and ordered the thudd guns and the Whirlwind to open fire on the traitors. The tactical support unit could not use their volkites to full advantage as they were forced to move in order to get line of sight on their targets. On the left the Sicaran Venator accelerated to get close to its traitorous counterpart. The Land Raider Proteus headed for the same target but came under fire from rocket launchers operated by Death Guard in a ruin. The iron hands artillery could use their higher range to take pot shots on the traitors and reduce their numbers. The land raider dropped the Immortals at the central insula before it managed to destroy the Death Guard Venator with a well placed shot. Unfortunately it was damaged by the rockets in the process. In an epic show down the Grave Wardens led by Typhon charged the Immortals after having shot them with chemical flamers. The Immortal sergeant – accepting the challenge – proved to be not quite immortal as he was struck down by the Death Guard leader, his squad proved sturdier however and used their breacher shields to keep fighting. To survive this war of attrition the squad would have had to be more lethal. As loyalist reinforcements were imminent Eisen ordered the Immortals to fall back and the rest of the units to stay in cover and secure the objectives. The Death Guard was forced to withdraw.
