Were it not for the far larger horror of the Heresy, the actions of this unit would have gone down in infamy. Death Guard apothecaries were assigned to develop bioweapons that could be deployed ahead of the Legion attack, and they excelled in cultivating virulent diseases and xenos parasites in captured human prisoners. Released into barracks, refugee camps or conurbations, these plagues could cripple a defender's forces and morale. Even worse, the unit was known to release infected prisoners - men, women, and children - and herd them ahead of the Death Guard's battleline. On more then one occasion the Loyalist defenders broke and fled at the sight of the screaming victims, bodies erupting with parasitic fungi or oozing ulcers, rather than linger to put them out of their misery.

The Legio Crucius Templari is a sub faction of Legio Crucius, the Warmongers Titan Legion. Formed after the founding of the minor Forge World, Cerberus, and the close bonds which formed between the Imperial Fists based in the area (the Kildrech Crusade), the local Knight House (House Kildare) and the Mechanicus forces; the sub Legio is an oath bound unit which always serves alongside the Imperial Fist forces based in the Kildrech System.
This Oath is held as the principal reason for the Legio to have followed the Kildrech Crusade, to latter become the Company of Kildare, into secession from the Imperium at large. While the parent Legio (Crucius) has not openly supported or condemned such a political move, it is suspected that the Legio heads are willing to allow such an action as a safe guard during the turbulent times of the Heresy.
