History

The Uruq Immortals militia regiment was originally a small but hyper-violent frenzon gang, who over a few decades absorbed or destroyed every rival gang in Drezda Arcology, one of Uruq’s greatest mega-hives.

With power came influence, and a certain measure of legitimacy. By the time of the Baylonian system’s compliance to the Imperium of Man, the “soldiers” of the Immortals, born and bred fighters wired on illicit combat drugs since adolescence, had already been transformed into a powerful and disciplined military force. The hierarchy of the gang had evolved into an officer corps, hailing from the slums yet mingling with highborn ladies, merchants and mysterious mechanicum adepts alike.

The Immortals regiment boasted tens of thousands of infantry: frenzon-boosted, pain-blocked and ferocious in assault. True to their roots, they excelled in urban warfare and brutal short-range fighting, and were most often supported by close range armour and artillery.

The Immortals medics were responsible for the disciplined distribution of pharmaceutical enhancement, and the regiment showed little of the poor discipline common to many chem-abusing regiments. They were tested and well-practiced killers, knew little of fear, and while they were mere mortals and no match for an Astartes individually, their boosted systems went some way to redressing the balance. During the insurrection the Immortals proved on several occasions that with numbers on their side they could even hold their own against the Emperor’s angels of death.

Leadership

At the time of the Baylonian Insurrection the commander-in-chief of the Immortals was Hexan Cyrus, great-grandson of the original gangleader who transformed the Immortals into a legitimate military power. A robust man in his middle years, Cyrus was a brutal warrior and a clever strategist who had inherited all of his ancestor's merciless cunning. Cyrus had a fascination with xenos, having never travelled off-world. He particularly admired the courage of the vile greenskins. The Immortals may have been legitimate soldiers, but they never forgot their roots in the hive-slum, and Cyrus had no qualms about openly collecting xenos artifacts. He was known for wearing an Ork warrior's metal jaw-plate into battle, modified by his mechanicum contacts to project a powerful protective field. With his chem-boosted reflexes, formidable weapons and "practical" fighting style, few mortals could survive meeting him face-to-face on the battlefield.
