Geography
Although once a vibrant planet with rich mineral resources and timber forests, Kildrech Minor was devastated during a Tyranid invasion of the System, leaving the planet an orbiting husk with barely an atmosphere. While still rich in mineral and ores, the landscape has forever been changed and the planets inhabitability reduced to mining colonies inside constructed habzones.
Population and History
One of the three primary inhabitable worlds within the System, ‘’’Kildrech Minor’’’ was only trumped by Kildrech Prime due to its physical size, being less than half the size of its larger brother. Other than that, its combination of vast natural resources, comfortable climate and regular night/day cycle made it an ideal colony planet for the expanding Imperium and quickly became a prosperous planet as the original Templar crusade pushed through that area of space. Even after communications with the Imperium ceased Kildrech Minor continued to grow and carefully managed its mining activities against its habitability, turning it into a major trade and export hub within the fledgling frontier. This continued growth came to a dramatic end when the Tyranid invasion occurred.
While the main spear head of the hive fleet was aimed at Kildrech Prime, a significant tendril quickly enveloped the smaller planet and, without significant defence forces, overran the world in a matter of days. Unlike Styx, which miraculously escaped unscathed or even the system capital, which maintained its atmosphere and some vegetation, Kildrech Minor was stripped to an inch of its life before the invasion was mysteriously halted. Even still, the planets existence is threadbare at best, its atmosphere no more than a vapour of gases trapped within the worlds gravity. Colonisation is pointless, but of late mining operations have commenced in purpose built habzones, attempting to tap into the vast quantities of minerals still within the planets crust.
Culture
With less than a dozen known colonies on the planet, the entire population is geared towards mining extraction. Most of the workers are long term contractors or, more recently, prisoners working out sentences. Their existence is one of constant work and little pleasure, confined to habzones or the mines.
