History

Lord Legate Antigonus Chlorus took over command of the XXII Millennial after his predecessor, Aristogeitus, was interred in a dreadnought after the Garzop Campaign. Under his leadership the XXII Millennial became a well-oiled machine, even for the Emperor's Children. Antigonus was called 'Chlorus' (the white) because the introduction of Fulgrim's gene seed made him albino. He made the title his own and soon was called Chlorus on account of his loyalty and dedication to purity. However during the cleansing of Chira IV, when the whole legion fought against the Xenos know as the Phalex, the XXII's advance was stalled, resulting in a gap forming between them and the neighbouring units from the XXV Millennial. The Phalex exploited this gap and burst through, running amok amongst the rear elements of the III Legion before Fulgrim's personal intervention, arriving from the Firebird. The XXII lost favour because of this shame, failing to perform at perfect attack, and failing to ensure their brothers were protected. The XXII were sent on routine garrison duties and during planetary assaults they were left to mop up resistance, never in the first assault.

This shame drove Antigonus, who continued to train his men in a desperate attempt to prove himself to the Legion and earn Fulgrim's favour again. Chance came through Eidolon to Fabius Bile's genetic 'improvements'. Antigonus was one of the early testers for a variety of genetic enhancements and forced most of his Millennial to do likewise. This added power proved addictive to Antigonus, who demanded more and more so as to be ever powerful. Antigonus earned Fulgrim's favour once more on Isstvan III where he delighted in the slaughter of other Astartes and proved the effectiveness of the genetically enhanced marines.

On Isstvan V the XXII witness the destructive power of the IIIrd Company under Vairosean, and many of the Millennial followed suit, making use of the deadly kakophoni. After Iydris Antigonus Chlorus was able to maintain a vice like grip over his Millennial and accompanied Fulgrim, rather than splintering off like many other units did. The XXII, who favoured a pincer of fast moving skimmers and vehicles with a heavy fist of tanks, were used to hunt various loyalist elements, again delighting in the excitement of the hunt and the slaughter. Twice Antigonus hunted Corax and fought him in an attempt to prove himself, and twice he was left with facial scars from Corax's claws. Whilst he enjoys hunting down any loyalist, he pursues groups of Raven Guard with special vigour and glee.
