History
The 74th Grand Battalion of the Iron warriors legion, led by Terran born Warsmith Bane Kastor was a Loyalist force of Iron warriors during the Horus heresy.
The Grand Battalion was on the eastern fringes of the galaxy bringing worlds into compliance with their Ultramarine allies when they suddenly recieved word that they had been recalled by the Primarch.
Perturabo doubted Bane's loyalty as he had always doggedly sworn allegiance to the emperor and he was Terran born. However the primarch recognised his talent and knew it would be a sore loss to lose The Warsmiths skill for war all together. So once recalled Kastor and his grand Battalion were placed under a watchful eye aboard a battle Barge under the command of another Iron warriors Warsmith.
When the ship and the two Grand Battalions within were Sent to purge and capture a Loyalist world Kastor and his men rebelled, in a sudden attack they took the ship with its crew and many of the opposing Battalion subdued. Most of the line infantry of the other Battalion joined Kastor after their Officers were airlocked. He then lead a rapid deployment from the Barge onto the world and took charge of the defence with now over 5,000 Iron warriors loyalists. When the expected Traitor reinforcements arrived they found a well defended loyalist Iron warriors force waiting for them and were Destroyed as they mistook the loyalists for victorius traitors.
Kastor took his newly aquired battle Barge "Dominus Ferrum" and his swollen Grand Battalion and linked up with loyalist forces and shattered legion forces and took to defending his imperium from the traitors where ever he could.
By heresy's end the 74th was savaged and heavily depleted to the point of being barely a shadow of their former selves. Malcador met with Bane Kastor himself and took him and his surviving Astartes, never to be seen again..
