History

"The Bloodied" was originally a slur used by Terran companies, to insinuate that the 37th were lacking prowess in assaults and hence would be bloodied by their enemies. The jackals of the 37th proved the falsehood of these taunts on the black sands of the Urghal Depression. Together with the staunch soldier-engineers of the Iron Warriors 23rd Grand Battalion, the 37th mercilessly crushed the forces of the false Emperor deployed to Isstvan V. After completely destroying a Salamanders Assault Squad, to the amusement of the 1st Claw watching from the shadows, the Iron Warriors Battalion Champion, Valence Kaden, was gifted a Nostraman Chainglaive by Clawmaster Hek Matulla. Shortly thereafter a Raven Guard ambush removed Hek Matulla's head from his neck. The 23rd and 37th swore oaths of blood and vengeance and pursued the cowardly remnants of the XIXth to the edges of the Black Hills. A number of Raven Guard escaped the retribution that was their due, lead by an enigmatic Centurion and a coterie of Mor Deythan.

As a flood of Angron's maniacs poured into the hills, the Iron Warriors and Night Lords were recalled to the fleet. Swiftly Horus issued orders through Perturabo and his brothers, as Angron pursued Corax and the Word Bearer's set about their profane rites and ceremonies on the sands below. Elements of the legions loyal to the Warmaster were to be dispatched to the forgeworld of Estebaan VII. Horus knew this world of vital import would raise his banner above their weapon fanes and munition forges - sweet fruit borne from seeds of dissent long sown.

As towers of black and green legion war plate were built to celebrate the Dropsite Massacre, warships from the Traitor legions were already leaving geostationary high orbit for the system's Mandeville points. First the doughty 23rd lead by the newly promoted Triarch, Kroeger, then the 37th, then the World Eaters 9th departed the Isstvan system.

While in warp transit, the title of "The Bloodied" was assumed by the Captain Arkan Hasal of the 37th company, an appropriate title given the amount of Legionary blood already, and also yet to be, spilt during the First Inter-legionary war by the murderers of this coterie.

The 37th arrived to find a complicit coven of Tech-Magos had turned the production might of Estebaan VII to aid the Warmaster's forces. After resupply and now joined by a small number of Alpha Legion and Word Bearer ships, the fleet left to prosecute further objectives in the galactic east. Kroeger had received fresh taskings from the Warmaster - take the Legionary fleet and the might of Estebaan VII to Segmentum Australis. Exterminate the Legionary forces of the 189th Expeditionary Fleet, believed to be a Company of Blood Angels and the ships company of an Imperial Fist cruiser, cast into the segmentum by the warp storms afflicting the Retribution fleet. It was suspected survivors of the Raven Guard, Salamanders and Iron Hands might link up with these forces, as Enlightened - tainted navigators - had detected warp spore of the Raven Guard Centurion's forces heading in this direction. This close to Macragge, it was likely the cobalt clad wardens of the XIIIth would be patrolling - any found were to be prosecuted for their crime of fidelity to Terra.

Pursuing the shattered legions brought the 37th to the Pandorum warzone. A geneseed replication facility was established by a Mechanicus Biologis Magos. The Bloodied knew this would have a twofold purpose; bolster the forces loyal to Horus and also lure in the Throne loving remnants, making them ripe for destruction. This came to fruition, with the Loyalists they had encountered earlier arriving to interfere with the Warmaster's masterplan. The initial, and typically blunt, approach of the Imperial Fists fleet met with disaster for the VIIth. Their attempts to bombard the facility from close orbit was disrupted by Traitor incursion wrecking many of the yellow livered void ships. Seeing a more indirect approach may be necessary, a shattered Legion force, lead by the Raven Guard Centurion landed. After a period of skirmishes involving infiltration teams from numerous Legions, including Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, Salamanders and Raven Guard, the Traitor production facility was breached. Valuable geneseed was recovered and the means for the Warmaster to replenish it destroyed. The Loyalists withdrew, with grim satisfaction. In no small part they were aided by teams of seemingly Loyal World Eaters, Sons of Horus and Night Lords. It is suspected that these warriors were in fact lead by, or entirely composed of, Alpha Legion legionaries, as usual working towards their own, inscrutable goals.

Immediately after the Pandorum campaign, the 37th moved on to support the Baylonian Insurrection, a protracted period of high intensity warfare.

The insane conflict for Geigenhive was to follow.
