History
Earning A Name
The Black Hearts earned their name during “The Culling of Formenos II” which took place during the Unification Era. The unit had been fighting a rebellion for the better part of two days when it had received intelligence on the location of rebel headquarters. Iron-Captain Aegeus Kappo ordered an Orbital Assault onto the location provided by the Order Triarii Recon Company, along with elements of Order Triarii Tactical Company they descended from the Battle Barge “Deus Ex Ferrum” onto the planet’s surface and decimated the rebellion in less than one hour. Over the course of the next few days Order Triarii Tactical Company routed out the remaining pockets of the rebellion. It was after the assault on the headquarters that Legionnaires found a log book with the following quote.
“We are lost; those damn monsters in their black metal armor have defeated us at every turn. We have sent envoys pleading for peace and they have all been meat with death. I fear those black hearted demons will not stop until every last one of us in dead.”
The Motto - It has come to the Triarii
Often tasked with military operations that the Imperial Militia and the Solar Auxilia are too weak to handle on their own the Triarii are called in to aid when the going gets tough. "It has come to the Triarii" implies that a situation has deteriorated to such a state that normal military forces are no longer able to accomplish their given mission and only the with the assistance of the Triarii are they able to complete their task. Due to this the Triarii have developed a deep disgust for the Imperial Militia and Solar Auxilia as they seem to always be failing at something, but if it were not for their failures, the Triarii would not have so many opportunities for success thus earning accolades worthy of their Primarchs favor.
