History

As everything to do with the alpha legion, very little is known of the fighting force (the size of this force is also unknown) commonly referred to as The unburdened chain. It is believed that like much of the Alpha legion The Unburdened Chain are not an actual chapter, instead they are refitted to suit the mission that they are appointed. It has also been noted that the harrow master Armillus Dynat and possibly the assassin known as exodus have been seen fighting alongside them, however it is also entirely possible that another marine was posing as either of them in a ruse to confuse their enemies or the witness was just incorrect. There is no real evidence to confirm any of this, however, so most of what is known is the tactics that they have been observed applying.

The unburdened chain seem to break with the stealth and espionage tactics that are often affiliated with the alpha legion, instead opting for what they call "breaking the chain". This involves bypassing heavily fortified defences, focusing on a weaker "chain link" with heavily concentrated fast moving armour, transports and jump or deep striking infantry supported by close air support. Once the front line had been broken, The unburdened chain would rapidly attack lines of supply and communications, then encircle and divide the main line leaving it prone for a final attack.

Unknown Alpha Legion Terminator pattern

The unburdened chain are also said to deploy troops equipped, what has been speculated, as other legions specialist troops, such as the iron warrior's tyrant guard terminators. Whether the troops in question are either allied with the chains of the hydra or they have somehow either stolen or created their own, as yet unknown, specialist troops it is unknown. It is extremely unlikely however, as there have been no known allied forces joining them and it's unheard of a legion stealing from another. This last piece of information is to be taken lightly until more proof is unearthed.
