History

The 108'th Navigationary expedition,is one of the many farflung didactycic cells of the Alpha legion, whether it is to strike at supply vessels to strangle loyalist worlds or to launch a decisive assault, there is no easily discerned pattern to their attacks.

But first, from whence did such a scourge come? The first noted report of the 108'ths presence is during the heighth of the great crusade. They were among the forces fighting alongside the ultramarines at the Tesstra compliance, and their praetor Bielok was noted as one of Alpharius commanders when the primarch guilliman rebuked them.

They were counted among the legionnaires that stood fast with the first legion during the third rangdan xenocides in 899M30. Indeed, from the reported losses one must infer that they were present where the fighting where the fiercest, contradicting this is the fact that they were noted as one of the first contingents to leave the engagement.

Leadership elements of the 108'th were also noted to be present at was later known as the "world prince campaign" and fought alongside the imperial fists.

following these events the 108'th were separated from the main contingent of the XX'th legion, such as it can be said that the alpha legion ever had a main contingent, in hindsight it is clear that the main bulk of Alpharius forces were kept separated, to be called upon when needed.

The submission of the Laputan technocracy

Their next noted combat engagement was recorded in 01M31, when a large portion of the 108'th translated into the Laputan system, and were hailed from a nearby planet. It was swiftly made clear that the system contained a farflung forgeworld, laboring under a tenant of faith that, initially, seemed to be close to the worship of the omnissiah.

The forgeworld, ruling over the chain of planets known as the self-styled laputan technocracy, were in possesion of no less than two forgeworlds, and three habitated planets, from whence they ruled the general populace by providing them with simplified technology, and containers of food. Order was kept by a system of self-contained grav-propelled fortresses that moved in planned patterns over the planets. Ensuring order and taking tribute in the form of man-power, while also regulating the purity of their "chattel".

As the 108'th translated into the system they initiated discussions with the technocratic council. It was soon made clear that the self proclaimed leaders of the system were willing to submit to the imperium as a whole, but where reluctant to submit their research, nor part with the STC's that allowed them such anti-gravitational wonders. In truth, they Laputan technocracy seemed disinterested in submitting to the rule of a distant ruler, and would prefer to join the imperium in name only, giving a slim tithe of manpower. The Alpha legion representatives quickly noted the magii present were heavily biologically divergent from the local populace, as well as from what was to be considered the purity of human form. There was also a general reluctance from the representatives to answer questions and make a decison. The leaders of the 108'th were slighted, it was obvious that they were not talking to the true leaders of the Technocracy, furthermore the suspicion of heretical practices meant that nothing less than a full submission would be needed.

The leader of the expedition, praetor Votan sent a final comunique, they would be brought in front of the true leaders of the Laputan technocracy, or they would break them in front of them. A reply was given, they would be allowed to enter the holiest of places, the fane of the furies. Yet they must come armed with nothing more than ceremonial arms, and they must swear to not harm what they met.

Votan exited the transportation craft, his bannermen followed him, they were guided by black robed adepts whose features where hidden 'neath their hoods, the guides hovered over the smooth metal walkway that lead into the cavernous approach ahead of the, the opening was a perfectly circular entry straight into the face of the mountain ahead of them. As they approached the flexi-steel gates opened without a sound, and the pathway extended into the darkness, the adepts moved in tandem with the pathway, and the legionnaire followed them, at last, the pathway struck into an a black carved stair of volcanic rock, the steps to large to accomodate any mere huamn, but perfectly suited to the adeptus astartes size. The servos of his artificer wrought armor seemed loud in comparison to the silence of the adepts movements. In truth votan had not believed that they would allow to enter clad in power armor, nor armed with their artificier wrought weaponry. But the techadepts that met them had either not been ordered to intercept them...or not considered it a threat enough to bother about. The thought did not sit well with him. At last the they reached the top of the stairs and where now met with a circular portal. There were gilded statues here, at least, they lack of ornaments had grated at his nerves, by all accounts the magii that came to their ships had been clad in symbols of office and what passed for finery, but here, at the site of their leaders there was nought to be seen, only the mottled stone in which they were housed. He was however soon proven wrong, as the statues started moving, out of their sockets in the wall. Tall gilded, four armed automatons ,two hands grasping a staff with a bloodred stone at the top, the other two ending in what seemed to be energy projectors, blue flashes of lightning arcing around their barrels. The heads were sunken into their barrel like torso, but had multifacetted eyes and a set of pincers.

The adepts retreated into the sockets and the four guardians approached the portal. As the portal opened they were guided into the room in front of them. inside was a gigantic wheel like
