History

The White Horse company were originally formed around a group of White Scars legionaries, led by the Terran-born officer Tchondax Jagi. Isolated at the outset of the heresy on a forward scouting mission, Jagi’s company were contacted first by delegates from the Sons of Horus legion, who very nearly rallied them to the Warmaster’s cause. Perhaps luckily, a consul librarian amongst the Sons of Horus named Hexan suffered a series of apocalyptic visions and became convinced that both his legion and the loyalists were on destructive paths. Hexan deserted with a tiny handful of legionaries who had been his gang-mates on Cthonia, but not before persuading Jagi and a substantial core of his most trusted warriors to join him even as the remaining White Scars fell in with the traitors.

Taking a mythological Terran monster as his sigil, Jagi and the newly-named White Horse company dropped communications with both sides of the conflict and refused to commit to either cause. They drifted inwards, perhaps vaguely aiming for Jagi’s homeword of Terra, perhaps simply drawn to the fires of war. Soon other disillusioned and betrayed legionaries swelled their ranks, and they became opportunistic mercenaries, stubbornly clinging to their old rationalist ideals even in the face of the new horrors they witnessed.

White Horse Characters

Astartes

  • Jagi, the White Horse

A former praetor of the VI legion, disillusioned by the Warmaster's betrayal and the collapse of the Crusade. Jagi is a great strategist and a deadly swordsman, and is armed with a terrifying black blade - maybe xenos in origin - which was looted from the ruins of a pirate vessel captured by his warriors.

  • Hexan

Hexan is a former consul librarian of the XVI legion. He is a powerful telekine and is tormented by visions of the death and enslavement of humanity. He functions as the prophet and shaman of the White Horse Company. It may be that Hexan is (deliberately or not) influencing Jagi psychically somehow.

  • Raiden

Raiden is Jagi's centurion lieutenant, a brutal warrior whose former allegiance is unknown. Raiden's frightening appearance and manner belie his cunning mind.

  • Blackmoon

A former consul forge lord of an unknown legion. Blackmoon is not so much a warrior of the White Horse as a blackshield captain in his own right who finds it convenient to ally himself to Jagi. He has a cadre of thallax bound to his will and aids the White Horse with the maintenance of their dreadnoughts.

  • 501

The mysterious consul vigilator known as 501 rarely speaks. It is unknown how he became connected with the White Horse Company, but he has been instrumental in many of their more devious traps and ambushes.

Mortals

  • Navigator Changstein

A rogue navigator captured when the White Horse decimated a pirate flagship, Changstein is loyal enough, albeit a reluctant combatant. He is sometimes forcibly brought to the field so that his warp-sight can help the White Horse predict ambushes.

  • Yuna Blue

Courageous and supremely self-confident, Yuna Blue is a war correspondent - a remembrancer who was attached to Jagi's VI legion scout fleet. She lives for the dramatic pict-captures that can be found only under fire, and has proclaimed herself the White Horse Company's official chronicler.
