History

The few surviving info-scraps suggest that "Captain" Kiron, the leader of the blackshield band later known as the White Horse Company, was a Terran-born legionary of the XIXth Legion, among the last generation of youths from the Xeric tribes of Terra to be inducted before the legion began recruiting from off-world. Kiron was probably a neophyte when he and his majority Terran-born company were assigned by their Primarch to the galactic fringe, as part of an effort to purge the legion of undesirable Xeric customs.

By the time the Heresy blew everything apart, Kiron was one of the last surviving children of Terra in his company, and a Captain of the Legion. Some unknown catalyst caused him to abandon his duty and unite many of his remaining comrades. At first it was unclear what the aims of the White Horse were, but it became apparent that they were heading slowly and inexorably home, towards Terra. Kiron's ultimate plan when he reached his destination was unknown, but his band grew with other renegade and orphan astartes. Their only unifying factor seemed to be a disdain for authority and a powerful loyalty to one another, but they were on occasion willing to play a role in a larger strategy if well compensated.

The White Horse Company's tactics were unorthodox, more akin to a band of raiders than a typical space marine legion. Kiron and his warriors often secured victory via trickery and sabotage when they could not do so by main force. Although Kiron’s loyalties (probably) lay with the Emperor, and the White Horse often fought bravely for the loyalist cause, the fact that they wore no easily recognisable badge and fought in such a deceptive manner resulted in more than one tragic case of mistaken identity ending in bloodshed. There is some suggestion that at least some of these events may not have been errors - enough to call into doubt the loyalty of the White Horse Company to any but themselves.

Kiron and his small fleet apparently vanished some time during the Age of Darkness, never reaching their destination. Unconfirmed reports of their presence at the Siege of Terra are unlikely ever to be verified.
