Northern Front - Battle of Eglurn System~1492920226
Loyalists Involved In The Conflict
Traitors Involved In The Conflict
Numerous times the traitors had attempted to gain a foothold upon Eglurn, and most of the time they were driven back by the stalwart Imperial defenders.
On this occasion the devious 3rd Legion had received word that the one and only 1st Captain of the Imperial fists, the great Sigismund. He was coming to visit the defenders of Eglurn to determine how the operations in the system were fairing and to bolster the defenses even further. The traitors could not pass up this opportunity to capture or kill one of the most notorious fighters in the galaxy.
On a patrol in the ruined outer sectors of Eglurn Primus Sigismund and his company were hunting for any hint of traitor infiltrators and noting any lapses in defense and security that could be improved. As the Imperial fists tanks rumbled through the ruined and rubble strewn streets and the marines moved from crater to crater a high pitched scream rang out across the sector. Immediately tactical squads snapped into formation, tanks found firing lines and assault units moved forward. The grotesque purple of the emperors children became visible when they moved from their concealed locations, a large armored force was hiding in behind the rubble and collapsed buildings waiting for the time to strike at Sigismunds contingent.
The disciplined Imperial fists weren't caught off guard however and reacted first. laying down heavy weapons fire in order to restrict vehicle movement. Tactical squads attempting to find cover before they came under fire. The 3rd legion returned fire in turn, blasting tactical squads apart in hails of mobile artillery fire, while a land raider carrying non other than Captain Lucius, a blades man of nearly as much stature of Sigismund himself.
Emperors children flankers and orbital assets entered behind the Imperial fists lines. The drop pod which was carrying a terminator squad was blown apart by combined fire from tactical support squads and Sigismund counter attacked with his Templar terminators, Slaughtering the Traitor terminators by himself before they could even react.
The Imperial fists own terminators attempted to knock out the traitors artillery but were unsuccessful and ultimately met their fates at the end of Lucius's own sword. This meant that Sigismund and Lucius ended up a battlefield apart and a dual of potentially titanic proportions would not take place during this conflict. The Imperial fists made a surge forwards and eliminated the enemy transport vehicles and took out heavy assault units such as the traitors leviathan dreadnought.
This push, lead by Sigismund himself allowed the Loyalists to take the middle ground which denied the traitors a route into the Imperial lines. With the 3rd legions flanking and orbital assets destroyed and or mitigated and after numerous volleys of fire being unable to dislodge Sigismund and his squad from the middle ground fortress Lucius assessed the situation and the forces he had remaining compared to the strong defensive position of the Imperial fists and isntead of instigating a suicidal charge against the loyalists chose to withdraw. Sigismund watched on as Lucius's land raider made retreat, and ordered the 7th legions standard be placed in the ground he stood, for they had won a hard fought victory. But Sigismund knew he had been denied a glorius dual which would have been fateful for one of the esteemed captains.
