History
Were it not for the far larger horror of the Heresy, the actions of this unit would have gone down in infamy. Death Gaurd apothecaries were assigned to develop bioweapons that could be deployed ahead of the Legion attack, and they excelled in cultivating virulent diseases and xenos parasites in captured human prisoners. Released into barracks, refugee camps or conurbations, these plagues could cripple a defender's forces and morale. Even worse, the unit was known to release infected prisoners - men, women, and children - and herd them ahead of the Death Gaurd's battleline. On more then one occasion the Loyalist defenders broke and fled at the sight of the screaming victims, bodies erupting with parasitic fungi or oozing ulcers, rather than linger to put them out of their misery.
