History
The Dark Machines is the military branch of the Iron Techtrarchs of the Logicians which is a cult of Dark Mechanicum.
The Iron Techtrarchs were forced to abandon the Emperor when their existing technologies couldn't withstand xenos attacks on their forge world Ferrox. The Emperor had forbidden the use of certain dark technologies that the tech-priests of the Iron Techtrarchs had discovered were successful to defeat the xenos.
The forge world was almost on the brink of extinction when Horus lifted the ban on the forbidden technologies. The Archmagos Prime Phaeton-Zek decided then that the only way for Ferrox to survive was to use their new found technologies to defend them against the xenos. After that the only option was to join the true Warmaster!
