On 572 962.M41 a small region on the eastern border of Imperial space within the Ultima Segmentum known as the Phonicas System went dark. All astropathic communications and warp travel into the area effectively ceased.

One hundred and forty days later the system exploded back into Imperial contact with such brilliance that thousands of Psykers in the surrounding systems died in an instant. But more importantly where once the Phonicas System represented the edge of the Astranomicons range to the Eastern Fringe it now acted as a beacon, amplifying the light of the Emperor past its former boundaries and into the darkness of the frontier. This miraculous event however has been overshadowed by the revelations of what happened during those days of isolation, now known as the Phonicas Campaign.

Fuelled by the growing warp disruption, the Phonicas System had fallen into civil unrest and isolated from the rest of the Imperium, the Imperial forces in the system was divided in its response. Elements of both Astartes and Guard attempted to invade the primary planet and destroy the source of the psychic disturbance, but led by the Astartes of the Angels Radiant, the majority of Guard and PDF forces backed by a limited number of other Marines, seized control of the planetary government and opposed the invasion.

As the conflict escalated, hordes of xenos entered the system via realspace and denizens of the immaterium tore through the curtain to invade reality. But the defending forces held firm and allowed the growing phenomena to run its course, believing it to be a sign from the Emperor. Immediately after the manifestation of the Beacon, or the Phonicas Choir as it has been dubbed, the forces in control of Phonicas Prime declared that this was a sign from the Emperor and His Imperial Truth.

What followed locally was the wholesale slaughter of the Ecclesiarchy and piece meal destruction of the Adeptus Ministorum as an entity. The ripples of such an action spread system wide instantly and caused a cascading sequence of secessions from the Imperium and the wide spread rise of the Imperial Truth and persecution of the Imperial Cult.

Whilst maybe not the intent of the Angels Radiant to cause such a breakdown in Imperium of Man, the rebellion and the rise of the Imperium of Truth has been taken out of their hands and is now being manipulated by many forces, both human and xenos, loyal and sinister, collectively known as the Iterators, a throwback of antiquity to the Great Crusade.

Likewise the forces opposing the spread of this new Crusade are not all loyal Imperialist, many corrupt planetary networks being puppeteered by Xenos and Chaos alike are making a stand to maintain their shadow kingdoms alongside oblivious loyal forces trying to protect the Imperial Cult. Fittingly these forces have become known as the Cultists.

Welcome to the Australis Ultima Secession campaign.

The Campaign

The campaign before you is an Apocalypse world campaign intended to give all of the players a sense of greater purpose and continuance to their already large scale games. Whilst Warhammer 40K can often be focused on the competitive nature of the game, Apocalypse is often more concerned with the fun and fluff, or story of the hobby. This campaign is aimed at accentuating that element of the game and provides an overriding story arc for the entertainment of the entire community, whether they are actively playing in the games or not.

Each geographical location, or campaign group, will be given control over a Sub-Sector of space within the Australis sector of the Ultima Segmentum, commonly known as Australis Ultima. Within each Sub-Sector there will be Systems and planets upon which the campaign will play across, named, populated and laid out by the campaign group of that region.

Each tournament or sanctioned game played within the campaign will have the players taking the sides of either the Iterators or the Cultists, it doesn’t matter what army they are playing or what side they took previously, both factions are neither good nor evil, they simply are. The results of the games are then tallied and applied to the campaign.

There are no required game formats or scenarios, each region or campaign group is free to run the games how they wish and track the results in a manner that suits them. For example one group may decide that all games next month will represent landing zones on a new planet which has entered the conflict. Each game played will represent a landing zone secured by either the Cultists or Iterators. After that month the games may represent the seizing of territories and will continue until one force has resecured the planet in the name of the Imperium of Man or Truth.

Other times the group may decide to host dedicated scenario games based on the current standing or status of the campaign in their Sub-Sector, resulting in for example, all of the players siding with the Cultists to be fortified and defending against the besieging Iterators. The options are limitless and will change from group to group. To help visualise and record the progress of the campaign, the Sector map will show each Sub-Sector currently embroiled in the secession and, within each Sub-Sector, the Systems and planets which have been fought over. As more regions join the campaign, more Sub-Sectors will fall to war, and likewise as more groups within the campaign regions decide to play regularly the campaign group may decide to allocate them dedicated Systems or planets to play in and have their results apply directly to them.

The first Sub-Sector to join the fray is the Phonicas Sub-Sector, the source of the Imperium of Truth and the new Beacon, or Phonicas Choir, spreading the Emperors Light; this Sub-Sector represents the Australian Capital Territory.
