Battle Summary

+++ OPEN FILE +++ +++ SECURITY LEVEL: APLHA-EOH-1 +++ +++ LOCATION: DOGON STATION, KUG'ARKAL, HARKARIALIS SYSTEM+++ +++ REPORT BEGINS +++

Dogon Station was a bustling free-for-all; a chaotic port full of deepspace haulers, tugs and local shuttles, and all their attendant crews. The station was home to a thousand accents and dialects, and ten times that number of docked ore-haulers, each one manned by human (and some not-quite-so-human) crews thankful for a few nights' shore-leave and a brief respite from the cold, silent void. It was a riot of noise, colour and life as the crews mixed, shared stories and drank away the stresses of deepspace ore-haulage.

Was.

Now, Dogon Station is a warzone; just one more Imperial facility set ablaze in the raging fires of the spreading Heresy. Where once stood soaring towers and vast docking zones is now naught but twisted plasteel and ferrocrete ruins.

The defence of Dogon Station had fallen to the 4,889th Mechanised Brotherhood, a Loyalist Solar Auxilia regiment who originally hailed from the deep-core world of Vos Abyssi. The 4,889th Brotherhood was one of the many ab-human regiments in the burgeoning Empire of Man; in this case, Vos Abyssi was a high-gravity mining world in the deep galactic core, and so it's inhabitants had mutated into Homo Rotundus - Squats, in the Low Gothic vernacular. The Brotherhood was typical of their kind; doughty, stalwart warriors with a penchant for heavy weapons and even heavier tanks. They had heeded the call-to-arms from Dogon Station and had preceeded with all haste to it's aid.

However, the defence had not gone well. THe regimental commander Hersir Grimnir had seen his vessal, the 'Ion-Storm', crash as it came in to land at Docking Bay 94 on Dogon Station. There was no outward sign of enemy attack; simply, the ship's auto-navigational logic engines had gone haywire. 'Scrapcode', Grimnir's Engineering Guildsman had muttered. Whatever the cause, the ship's auto-landing protocols had gone catastrophically awry, resulting in the 'Ion-Storm' becoming little more than a twisted, crumpled wreck on the docking bay's plasteel deck.

Grimnir had led his troops out of that wreck in good order, but almost as soon as they had disembarked they had found themselves assailed from all sides. Grimnir's veteran units of Greybeards and elite Sternhammers had quickly taken up firing positions to fight back with their favoured plasma weaponry, but they were cut down in short order by the relentless onslaught originating from giant robots which barked in a strange electromagnetic squeal.

Almost as soon as the firefight had begun, it was over. Grimnir led the bloodied remnants of his strkeforce back to the landing zone of their crashed ship, ducking for cover under the scorched hullplates. The Mechanicum automata - for that must surely be what those things had been - were already swarming toward them, in a crushing pincer movement to eliminate the Loyalists completely.

But the 4,889th were ready. Grimnir mustered his remaining warriors around him, telling them that they must hold out until further reinforcements could be raised from the strongholds of Vos Abyssi. With a stirring battlecry that invoked the forefathers, Hersir Grimnir rallied his troops and began the fightback...
