Even before its settlement by elements of the Adeptus Mechanicus, Cerberus was an inhospitaable planet; a thin atmosphere, high gravity and multiple toxins as a result of the vast quantities of minerals and ores lacing their way through the planets structure. However it was the latter, which drew the attention of the Tech Preists. Radiation, Toxic atmospheres and little to no vegetation is no deterant to the Mechanicus when there is a plentiful source of valuable material at hand.

It was due to the significant lack of vegetation that Cerberus escaped largely unscathed when the rogue Tyranid tendril swept through the Kildrech system. The Xenos forces that did land found little sustenance after devouring the Tech Preists and the surface vegetation and the planet was quickly abandoned, even before the mysterious abortion of the planetary assimilation. It is this state in which the planet was rediscovered shortly after the Imperial Guard expeditionary force arrived and, thinking it was a lifeless rock, were quickly distracted by the beacon signals from Kildrech Prime.

Population

Like most planets rules by the Adeptus Mechanicus, Cerberus is an alien world to most Imperial citizens. It is rare indeed to hear the sound of a human voice within the catacombs of machines and mines; instead it is filled with the hum of production and the static discourse of priesthoods binary language.

Although an ancient Forge, Cerberus slumbered for millennia and has only recently been awoken by the Magos loyal to Legio Crucius. Only a tiny fraction of the facilities have been reactivated with more and more of the complex being explored and documented as additional tech priests arrive. True to their nature, this work will take decades if not centuries and while this is undertaken the entire world is under a very strict governorship of secrecy.

History

Originally settled by Mechanicus forces accompanying one of the early Black Templar Crusades shortly after the Horus Heresy, Cerberus became the central manufactorum and forge world for the Templars base of operations in the Kildrech System. As the range of the Astronomican slowly withdrew and the focus of the Templars crusade changed from expanding to maintaining and then to defending the system, the Forge World, like the rest of the planets, became largely cut off from the Imperium.

With the vast supplies of raw materials stored within the planet, Cerberus became a highly efficient, albeit unknown, minor Forge World with extensive underground facilities ranging from ammunition production all the way through to both Warhound and Reaver Titan capabilities. Forge records, however, indicate that only three Titans were produced, two Warhounds (Aquilus Viator & Sicarius Deos) and a Reaver (Furvum Aspis), before production ceased.

The three titans served with the Legio Crucius for a number of centuries before being recalled to their birth place for reasons unknown. Shortly after the Tyranid invasion the Forge World was overrun and the great Machine Gods lay dormant in their repair cradles.

Cerberus remained like this until its rediscovery by the techmarines of the Kildrech Crusade once they had reactivated the Templar Fortress on Kildrech Prime and accessed it data repository. Rather than notifying the priesthood on Mars, the Templars instead contacted representatives of the Legio Crucius and formed an alliance reminiscent of that which was originally in place at the planets founding. In gratitude of having the Forge World turned over to them and in return of protection by the Templars, the Legio Crucius would field the three existing, and now awakened, Titans alongside the Crusade forces as well as supplying them with other manufactured goods.
