Description

Childress B is the largest planet in the Childress system, a gas giant not quite large enough to undergo fusion and become a star. Though it has 47 moons, none are inhabited, at least officially. There is a huge debris field in orbit around the planet, the remnants of a massive space battle from the ancient forgotten past. Several licensed ship breakers (and numerous unlicensed scavengers) conduct salvage operations in the field. The erratic movement of debris within the field along with still-live military ordnance make this highly dangerous work, but potentially very lucrative. The occasional discovery of a piece of lost archeotech can make the finder fabulously wealthy, but the vast majority of salvagers are lucky if they survive to enjoy retirement.
