Although far enough away from the Systems sun to retain an atmosphere, Fearis is far from hospitable. More than half the surface is covered in molten lakes and thermal upvents from the planets core and the atmosphere itself is a cocktail of corrosive and poisonous gases. However the high geothermal activities of Fearis make it an ideal candidate for power generation and other limited resource gathering activities, all conducted by penal colonies with extremely short life spans.

There has never been a significant permanent population on the planet, a number of expeditionary/exploration srties by various arms of the Adetpus Mechanicus and some attempts by mining consortiums to harvest the limited, albiet valuable minerals trapped deep within the volatile crust. All such ventures were quickly abandoned due to the high mortality rate and low yeild, although based on subseuqent recomendations of the Mechanicus surveys the Phonicas government did install close to a dozen geothermal plants on the planets surface, manned by prisoners as a form of penal colony. Even with the protective habs and limited air filtration in the facilities the life expentancy of the workers is under a dozen years.

During the opening stages of the [[Phonicas Campaign]], Fearis was seen as one of the three major strategic staging points of the System which various factions attempted to control. While there were numerous skrimishes and orbital conflicts, the various geothermal plants sustained no reportable damage. The majority of the planetary landing zones were quickly secured by forces loyal to the Phonicas government at the time although there were a number of Tyranid incursions which quickly died off due to a significant lack of biomass.

Initially surveyed and assigned a categorisation during the early stages of settlement, the planet was renamed when Canley was formally settled. Very little activity has occured on or with the planet since.

+
Currently the planet is under heavy orbital protection by the Iterator forces under direction of the marines of the Angels Radiant (the current Phonicas Government) as the planet provides much needed power and revenue source now that ties with the Imperium of Man have been severed.

Although far enough away from the Systems sun to retain an atmosphere, Fearis is far from hospitable. More than half the surface is covered in molten lakes and thermal upvents from the planets core and the atmosphere itself is a cocktail of corrosive and poisonous gases.

Population

There has never been a permanent population on the planet, the proposal for expeditions to explore the possibility of power generation has recently been put forward to the governor of Canley however with the declining inter system traffic due to the war the venture has been shelved.

History

Initially surveyed and assigned a categorisation during the early stages of settlement, the planet was renamed when Canley was formally settled. Very little activity has occured on or with the planet since.
