History

Force Commander Dietrich

Dietrich is the supreme commander of all Excalibur Detachment, his leadership proving vital to the Jaegers, both for morale and tactics. His tactical expertise comes second to his superior in the fleet however, with Praetor Barachiel taking advice from him in lesser conflicts and minor Xenocides. Wielding the sword known as ‘Durendal,’ a relic of the early Crusade, possibly even unification-era, and a state of the art Plasma Pistol manufactured by the adepts of the Mechanicum, he is more than able to stand against all but the toughest of Astartes warriors.

Sub-Commander Adler

Adler is the most trusted of Dietrich’s advisors, being the one who he seconds command to when he is unable to take to the field. Adler goes to war with his command cadre, also that of Dietrich, and in larger battles they are protected in a new ‘Chimera’ chassis vehicle, it's rarity owing to how recent the vehicle was developed.

Standard Bearer Eckhardt

Eckhardt is in a way the de facto morale figure of the Detachment, as the lack of Discipline Masters, in itself reflecting the more elite nature of their force, lead to a need for another ‘figurehead’ to keep troop morale high during campaign. Eckhardt takes to the field alongside Adler as a part of his Command Cadre, and holds aloft the Standard of Excalibur Detachment with great pride. This standard is a great relic among all of the Jaegers, as it is a relic from the Unification of Terra, being held aloft by the men of the Emperor even in those tumultuous days. He holds his role with the utmost respect, and it is his purpose to not only keep the troops from fleeing the lines, but also to maintain the Detachment’s sterling reputation amongst their contemporaries.

Vox Operator Gabriel

Gabriel is the expert in communications in the Detachment, using his Nuncio-Vox to transmit the commands of Dietrich as far as from orbit. This gear also enables him to coordinate attacks with amazing precision, leading artillery, tanks and infantry in perfect unison at the command of his superiors.

Grenadier Sergeant Beowulf

Beowulf and his unit are identically armed to that of Friedrich, his closest friend and ally. The two share their strategies with each other to great effect, both using the powerful meltagun, being able to destroy enemy tanks with ease.

Grenadier Sergeant Friedrich

Friedrich, like both Beowulf and Oberon, uses overclocked Laslocks as the standard weapon in his squads, the overcharged cores making them stronger per shot than even the mighty boltgun, although at a sacrifice of range and rate of fire.

Grenadier Sergeant Oberon

Sergeant Oberon's squad utilises grenade launcher weaponry instead of the energy weapons in use by his allies. His squad have proven the most capable of the troop detachments in fighting massed, lightly armoured enemies, also proving more than capable against any other foot target.

Fire Support Sergeant Randolph

The heavy weapons in use by the Excalibur detachment are mostly made up by the reliable autocannon, being cheap to manufacture and their ammunition being easily obtained from most worlds. Randolph believes these weapons are far superior to any other, as their versatility allows them to destroy anything from lightly armoured infantry to lesser tanks. Randolph’s belief in overwhelming firepower is second only to those who crew the ‘Xenolasia,’ as is his unbelievable hatred for his enemies.

Medicae Gerhardt, Aloysius, Napoleon and Roland

The Medicae operatives attached to the Excalibur detachment take their job absolutely seriously, and one single casualty is a failure to them. Each Grenadier troop has an attached Medicae to tend to the injuries of the soldiers, and to keep them in fighting condition even as the battle rages on around them. Some weapons, however, deal wounds so harsh that the medics cannot hope to stitch them up, as there is little left of these men to recover. The blades and claws of the daemonic have found to deal these kinds of mortal wounds, and daemonic forces have become ever more prevalent in the Age of Darkness…

Tank Commander Talbot

Commander Talbot is an ace Tank Commander, and amongst the ranks of the Jaegers his skill at the hands of a Vanquisher Cannon is invaluable. His leadership turned his squadron from a group of poorly disciplined men with little training to a crack team of expert tank aces. The onset of the Horus Heresy is seen by the crews as little more than a new opportunity to practice their skills.

Vanquisher ‘Tyrfing’

The Leman Russ led by Commander Talbot, its cannon has been proven excellent at cracking through even the heaviest of enemy armour. Talbot now turns his guns towards the heavy tanks of the Legiones Astartes, especially the nigh-impenetrable Spartan Assault Tanks.

Baneblade 'Xenolasia'

The heaviest of all the machinery available to the Calibanite Jaegers, the Baneblade known as ‘Xenolasia’ is the greatest fear of any of their foes. Helping bring many worlds into compliance, the crew of the tank have a special disdain for xenos life, leading to the name they have adopted for their bringer of death. The Age of Darkness brings little to the crew, other than a method by which to carve more kill marks into their tank, especially now that Astartes were the enemy. To the ‘Xenolasia’ crew, and indeed the Jaegers at large, they are just bringing compliance to a lawless Galaxy.
