The 504th Solar Auxilia Cohort (504th SAC) is a Solar Auxilia Cohort in the Imperialis Auxilia, first formed in 5 001 001.M31 as part of the 453nd Expedition Fleet. Currently the Cohort is still active, and fighting in the Formenos System.

Beginnings

The regiment was initially constituted on 5 001 001.M31 in the Imperialis Auxilia as the 504th Solar Auxilia Cohort. The First, Second and Third Tercio Class: Militaris along with First, and Second Tercio Class: Optimate and the First and Second Tercio Class: Ancillary were constituted on 5 030 001.M31 as Lasrifle I, Lasrifle II, Lasrifle III, Veletaris I, Veletaris II, Rapier I, and Ancillary I respectively, of the 504th Solar Auxilia Cohort, and were activated 5 620 001.M31 at Fort Château de Glace, Formenos V. When the 504th Solar Auxilia Cohort completed its training, it was assigned on 5 900 002.M31 to the 453nd Expedition Fleet. The Cohort continued to recruit new troops and grow in size until it had reached over 80000 Auxiliary members with 2000 members in the support staff.

Formenos II

The regiment moved from Fort Château de Glace to Strike Cruiser "The Flame of Formenos" on 5 970 942.M31 to finish its training, fill its Table of Organization and Equipment, and prepare for its Staging Call. When the call to aid Formenos II came, Strike Cruiser "The Flame of Formenos" staged above Formenos V 3rd Moon Krigler, and it made its Port Call on 5 001 943.M31, when it departed Kriglers Orbit. Formenos II had been in a state of civil unrest for the better part of a year and recently had fallen into civil war, with loyalist forces slowing losing ground the 504th were sent in to aid the local militia.

Initial Deployment, 5 010 003.M31

On 5 010 943.M31, the 504th boarded the troop landing crafts on the Strike Cruiser "The Flame of Formenos" which launched to the Northern hemisphere of Formenos II to link up is loyalist militia forces of the planet and the Cohort's first planet side port of call, Castle Red Lion. Upon arrival on 5 011 943.M31, the Cohort marched 12 miles south of the city where they established a cantonment area consisting of a few stone huts and a tent city. Soon, the Cohort was moved south to Odijibad.

Training intensified and Lord Marshal Lancaster along with his Operations Command watched the 504th go through its paces. Training included many practice assaults, urban warfare, and one joint training exercise conducted with local militia forces. Finally, the order came and the Cohort moved to Tangnat, which was to be the 504th's point of departure for the invasion to the south.

Castle Black Dragon, 5 200 003.M31

Lord Marshal Lancaster took command of a detachment of 1600 members of 504th that would partake in Operation Drake Hunter, and on 5 200 943.M31, the 504th Solar Auxilia Cohort helped spearhead the invasion of Castle Black Dragon in their first military offensive. Despite extensive precautions to avoid an incident, near Castle Black Dragon a nervous militia regiment suddenly fired upon the 504th's formation. Immediately, other militia regiments joined in, destroying friendly Dracosan and forcing troops to exit far from their intended rally point in one of the greatest tragedies of Formenos II. The Militia had been under intense Insurgent attacks and were fearing that they were being outflanked by a superior force, and many were unaware of the impending spearhead assault. Twenty-three Dracosan were destroyed, thirty-seven were damaged, and over 400 casualties were confirmed. Lord Marshal Lancaster Dracosan, after twice being hit with large anti-tank rounds but being saved by its flair shield, finally reached the rally point near Castle Black Dragon. By morning, only 200 of the detachments 1600 soldiers had reached the objective area. The others had been forced to disembark and move in by foot. Those who were forced to walk would eventually form the second wave during the assault on Castle Black Dragon. During the first day of the Operation Drake Hunter more than 30% of the 504th had been killed to friendly fire with another 15% being wounded. The remainder of the unit was charged with assaulting the Postern Gate of Castle Black Dragon, preventing any insurgent forces from fleeing the battle and halting any insurgent reinforcements form entering Castle Black Dragon. By the end of Operation Drake Hunter, form the combined casualties due to friendly fire and casualties taken at the Postern Gate the 504th had lost upwards of 70% of its fighting force, thus the men assigned to the detachment were awarded the Triple Skull. Militia reports have been said that the more causalities the 504th took the harder the remaining troops fought by the end of the Operations a Militia commander is quoted as saying "They fought like they had the Devil in them." thus earning the Cohort the title of “The Devils of Formenos.”

The Wyvern's Nest, 5 700 003.M31

The 504th had set up Camp Proclamation within Castle Black Dragon and been eager to see battle again after several months of training, resupply, and refit of equipment and men that had been lost in the assault on Castle Black Dragon. So, when the word came on 5 700 943.M31 for the 504th Solar Auxilia Cohort to move out 624 miles further south and 223 miles behind enemy lines to the mountain fortress of Wyvern, few believed the mission would actually be conducted. The operation would require seizing the mountain fortress know as "The Wyvern's Nest" the last stronghold of the insurgents and the largest mountain on Formenos II. The men of the 504th became even more doubtful the mission would go when told that the planned travel route was through the "Giants Slash" (nicknamed "Quad-Gun Alley" by Armada Pilots) and that they were reportedly outnumbered 3:1.

The Cohort would utilize Arvus Lighter Orbital Shuttles (ALOS) as the mountains were to treacherous for even the Cohorts advanced Explorer Adaptation. This would be the Cohorts First ever air assault mission and required a great deal of preparation and coordination with Imperial Auxilia - Armada Imperialis Sub-orbital Strike Wing assets. The operation would require a total of 334 ALOS to accommodate the 4000 Solar Auxilia that would partake in the Assault on "The Wyvern's Nest". Many of the the ALOS would be fitted to provide CAS to the ground forces and were armed with an array of Autocannons, Lascannons, and Multi-Lasers, additionally the Armada would allocate over 20 Sub-orbital Strike Wings to the mission including Thunderbolt Heavy Fighters, and Voss Pattern Lightning Strike Fighters.

On 5 710 003.M31 the Operatoin Wyvern's Heart Spear was a go, and 4000 members of 504th Solar Auxilia Cohort Boarded their Arvus Lighter Orbital Shuttles and departed for "The Wyvern's Nest". Lord Marshal Lancaster sent out a Vox Cast as the ALOS departed and is quoted to having said "Auxilia! You must strike hard and fast, so enemy cannot counter. You must hold and never give up the ground you take, for without it we cannot bring in our reinforcements. Strike hold, men! STRIKE HOLD!!!" this would become the battle cry of the 504th Solar Auxilia Cohort.

The Giants Slash proved to be just as deadly as reported. 67 ALOS were destroyed and 143 were damaged by insurgent Quad-Guns. Of the 143 ALOS that were damaged 57 were forced to make emergency landings scattering small pockets of Solar Auxilia all over the mountain range. These isolated groups carried out demolitions, cut lines of communication, established roadblocks, ambushed insurgent columns, and caused so much confusion over such an extensive area that initial insurgent reports estimated the number of Solar Auxilia to be over twenty times the actual number. These troops earned the title of the LGOSA (pronounced: El-Goh-Sah) or Little Group of Solar Auxilia and quickly became a favorite tactic of Cohort Officers.

The battle for "The Wyvern's Nest" is said to be one of the most successful operation ever conducted by the 504th Solar Auxilia Cohort. The operation had complete inverse result of that seen at Castle Black Dragons Postern Gate. The 504th had lost only 30% of its fighting force during the assault.
