History
The Brotherhood of the Summer Lightning has a proud and noble heritage, with many of the Brotherhood's veterans being amongst the first pioneer companies in the hunt across the stars in the Great Crusade, akin to the Golden Berkut's on Chogoris. The Brotherhood was involved in glorious campaigns such as the compliance of the Mandragoran Sector, Terel III, Jakor-Tal, Terlaken B3 and one of the most iconic campaigns at Arco, where the Khan, Horus Lupercal and Mortarion joined forces to bring Arco's alien overlords to their knees, with Jaghatai landing the killing blow. These experiences of the Great Crusade have honed and sharpened the Brotherhood with superlative warriors, none greater than the Lord of Summer Lightning himself, Jubal Khan, Ahz-ezen, Master of the Hunt, Death that comes with Laughter.
Born on Terra, Jubal Khan, even after his rise to Ahn-ezen by Jaghatai Khan, leads the Brotherhood with his hunters heart and youthful soul and in return, the Brotherhood lives life like every day was their last, honing their skill with the blade in the practice cages or pushing their steeds to their limit and beyond at every available opportunity to honour the legion, the Khan and themselves. When Jaghatai first led his sons in battle, he immediately noticed the natural hunter within Jubal, who had a quickness that tricked the eye, skill with the blade beyond comprehension and a soul that laughed in Deaths face, and gave him the title of Khan and his own Brotherhood to honour his impressive tally of victories.
Alongside Jubal is his trustworthy companion and true friend, Altan Nohai, Primus Medicae of the White Scars. Altan hails from Chogoris, a fine bladesman but also master of the Apothecarion, saving many brothers lives throughout the Legions persecution of the Great Crusade and now in to the Heresy. Altan is revered in the legion for his deeds on Chondax, where the Brotherhood was ambushed by an overwhelming number of Orks in the caverns of the Iron Skull. Having slayed many White Scars, the foul Ork Warlord, Shagrat Scarrskin, a monster among monsters had to be stopped. Altan fought with a speed and deftness that defied reality and where many of his brothers had failed before, Altan did not, striking his Guan Dao true, deep in to the heart of the Ork. This turned the tide of the fierce battle, saving lives this time not with his Narthecium but with the tip of his blade.
