History

The warband known as the Niflungar has had a short history prior to the battle on Prospero. Formed from the depleted remnants of a couple different warbands after battles forgotten and far away from the light of the fledgling Imperium. They quickly carved a name for themselves as hunters and experts at lighting raids.

With the mustering of the Censure Fleet, the Niflungar prepared themselves for a fight like few others.

Under their Lord, Sigmundr, the warband fell to the surface with the Wolf King in the first wave. On the cutting edge they reddened the streets with the blood of the Spireguard. Fighting through buildings, alleys, streets and parks they made their way to the Acropolis Magna with Russ. The fight inside was bloody and the Niflungar lost many of their number. But the resistance broke and the survivors fled, many warbands in pursuit not least Sigmundr and his men.

Soon after the hunt, the warband made its way back to Tizca. Upon their return the Thousand Sons had made their appearance. Sigmundr relished in the fact that there was finally a fight to be had. This was a fight that would see the Niflungar all but destroyed though. Suffering greater than 80% casualties the warband made it to the center of the city as the Canis Vertex crumpled in its death and opened the gates of hell. As the flesh change took those unfortunate sons of Magnus, there were astartes in the Rout that rose up to meet the challenge.

With the Impossible Battle in full swing events could not be followed with any certainty by the handful of surviving Niflungar. All that could be held for certain was that in the aftermath, Sigmundr and his retinue were lost. Leaving his most junior claw leader in charge.

Gunnar was this leader.

After the withdraw from the ashen surface of Prospero, the Niflungar were resupplied and given reinforcements. This was not near enough to bring them back to full strength.
