History

Pre-Heresy

The Lion Hearts are the 121st Company under the 12th Battalion of the VII Legion. An accomplished company specializing in ship to ship boarding actions; and siege breaking when they can bring the full might of their armour units to bare on the enemy. Not content with sitting back waiting for the enemy, they use a combination of heavy close range fire support from their vehicles in conjunction with tactical marines and Breachers to force the enemy into unfavorable positions. Then at a clear disadvantage, the remaining resistance is finished off by close combat specialists. Always looking to be on the attack, Captain Gerrad was accomplished in void combat as well as any Captain of the VII Legion. Despite often being needed on the bridge he always felt it was his duty to lead his Astartes from the front; often leading his Breachers with boarding shield and power fist taking any challenger down in the process. They height of the accomplishments for the Lion Hearts during the Great Crusade was their participation at the Battle of Ophelia VII. This was a battle Led by the Emperor himself. They were also part of the honour guard for Horus ascension to the mantle of Warmaster on Ullanor.

The Heresy Breaks

The 121st "Lion Hearts" had a long and glorious history throughout the Emperor's Great Crusade. Leading up to the Heresy, the Lion Hearts had spent many decades among the stars doing the work of the Emperor and Dorn. When the Heresy broke the 121st were on Terra having been recalled with the rest of the VII Legion to resupply and replenish their strength before returning to the crusade. Much to the frustration of the company, they were unable to take part in many actions whilst the galaxy began to burn. They played a small role in the evacuation and salvage of several Martian Forges during the Schism of Mars earning the gratitude of several Magos. A particular hardship for the Lion Hearts were the campaigns in the Inferno sector. There, their brothers fought and died and the 121st had to be satisfied with infrequent data reports and fleeting telepathic contacts. Despite being in the midst of their resupply cycle the depleted company were recalled by First Captain Sigismund. They were ordered to battle against the Emperor's Children led by Lord Commander Eidolon and an allied knight house on Agif Prime. It was time for the Lion Hearts to return to the fray.

Recent Actions

Under the command of First Captain Sigismund the 121st were able to secure a massive victory against the traitors. They suffered minimal loses and bore witness to a great duel between the two champions resulting in the humbling of Lord Commander Eidolon. Having shown their worth despite their depleted forces the First Captain dispatched them to the Centrumeh Gate in the Centrumeh Sub-Sector. With the fierce fighting in the Trugoy and Oteal systems the tired loyalist forces were in desperate need of reinforcement. Bolstered by several units from the First Captains own, the Templar Brethren, the Lion Hearts looked to strike a blow against the enemy acting as exemplars of the VIIth Legion. Initially linking up with several forces around the planet of Raynes knowledge of the destruction of the knight house had made its way to the planet ahead of the arrival of the 121st. Before entering into a needless conflict in the midst of an unstable truce the 121st withdrew and linked up with loyalist forces and made ready to make planet fall on the sub-sector capital, Westarnes.

What followed was a long and indecisive campaign against the traitor forces and Astartes forces who had forsaken their legions and the Emperor. Major victories were secured against Abbadon and his Sons of Horus in a raid on Westernes; as well as against a disciple of Lord Commander Eidolon and Sons of Horus allies in the major hive on the garden world. An Alpha Legion task force was also unable to capture a Knight and were nearly wiped out to a man, although there is some evidence to suggest that was not their true objective. However, a huge blow was struck to the Company by a Night Lords champion, felling Captain Gerrad in single combat. His presence and expertise in void combat will be sorely missed in the times ahead.

In order to fill the void in the command structure, Sergeant Sarren of the first Breacher squad was promoted for his valor. His courage and battle prowess exemplified during the Centrumeh campaign dueling a fallen champion of the Emperors Children in a Leviathan Dreadnought. A blade expert in his own right and in recognition of this tremendous feat the newly promoted captain was gifted a suit of Terminator armour from the first company and a sacred blade from the Templar Brethren. Sarren has vowed to carry on legacy of the Lion Hearts, hunting down the traitors who would betray their brother Astartes. With the business concluded in the Centrumeh sector; including the destruction of the traitor fleet the 121st were sent an urgent astropathic communicae to redeploy to the Golloch Cluster. Joining a conflict that had begun to be known as The Second Golloch War the 121st were engaged on the ruined Paterswold seeking resources to bolster their battle weary forces.
