History
The 71st company, known as "The Tempered Storm", was one of the few Salamanders companies not present on Istvaan V during the massacre that destroyed much of the legion. At the time of the Massacre, they had been heavily engaged against xenos pirates in the Ultima segmentum and unable to immediately answer their Primarch's recall order.
After completely eradicating the Xenos holdouts, the 71st attempted to return to Nocturne at best speed but for reasons unknown the warp had become extremely turbulent and nigh impossible to navigate. Despite the best efforts of their navigators, the fleet was thrown well off course and upon translation back to real space has found itself in the Cambrius sector.
At this time, scattered and unconfirmed reports have filtered in regarding the massacre at Istvaan and the revelation of additional traitor legions on top of the original four. The 71st have chosen to bunker down in a well defended position and consider all other forces as potentially hostile until more reliable information is available, or the warp calms and a return jump to Nocturne becomes possible.

The Commander of the 71st, Avira is one of the few surviving Terran born marines who have served in the Legion since its earliest days. He took part in the legion's initial legendary assault on the Tempest Galleries, at which time he was still just a mere legionary. In subsequent campaigns he proved capable of command and slowly rose up the ranks. He was finally promoted to the rank of captain after his predecessor was killed during the battle for Antaem, just a few short days before Vulkan arrived to finally unite with his legion. In the subsequent re-organization of the legion, Avira was awarded command of the 71st for his exemplary service, and has since proven himself well worthy of the role time and again.
Igniax (Chaplain) Go'vad.
Go'vad is a Nocturean from the Sanctuary city of Helios who earned his place amongst the Firedrakes in a relatively short time of service. As a particularly wise and learned individual, he proved to be a natural candidate for membership of the Igniax. After being personally tutored by Vulkan, he became wholly devoted to the ideals of the Promethium Cult. Since his assignment to the 71st, Go'vad has become the supporting backbone of his company, both in a spiritual and physical sense. He can often be found leading a squad of his fellow firedrakes into the thickest battle, holding the line and buying time for the rest of the company to overwhelm the opposition.
