History

A dark and shadowy prescence throughout the late Great Crusade era, the VI Harrowing of the Alpha Legion is surrounded by dark tales and even darker myth. A force known to operate both special ops strike forces and massed strikes against enemies of their choosing, little was left in their wake once unleashed.

As appears to be standard for much of the XX legion throughout their history, little is known about the members of the VI Harrowing beyond their force name, allocated by then friendly forces purely due to their operating vox-pattern identification code of XX:VI when in theatre with other assets of Imperial forces. The Commander of the force identified himself as 'Armillus Dynat' - although speculation has even been cast on this cognomen given that another commander operating with the IV Legion Iron Warriors at the time had also given that name to allied forces. The use of this moniker appears to be given at will to promote open friendship amongst allied forces in lieu of true identity, maintaining anonymity amongst the XX Legion.

Further XX:VI elements have been identified using alias only - namely their specialist operator behind enemy lines, known as 'The Elder' in addition to a 'Lernaen' Terminator squad who has previously worked with Solar Auxilia forces under the codename 'Bleak Dawn'

Upon the outbreak of the heresy, whilst Isstvaan, Prospero and Calth still burned with the fires of treachery, the VI harrowing appeared to go dark and out of contact instantly - suggesting an acute awareness of the events surrounding the Heresy and it's opening gambits. The first encounter loyalist Imperial forces had with the XX:VI was around the worlds of the Hakesh sector, when the Imperial Governer there was supplanted over short months by a regime now known to be in league with Traitor elements. Elements of the IX legion were sent to intervene after tithes, missives and requests for aid went unanswered and unheeded - finding only treachery waiting for them by the Alpha Legion as they flew to investigate. Now openly renounced as traitors in league with the Warmaster, the XX:VI appear to have prosecuted numerous campaigns across a huge volume of Imperial territory - although whether the true VI Harrowing are much bigger than first estimated, or whether there are multiple VI Harrowing elements no-one save the XX legion can be certain.

Striking out across multiple key theatres of war including Isstvaan and Calth in the opening moves of the Heresy and operating in small numbers across Mars has meant that the insidious nature of the XX has sprouted like weeds across the Imperial front line and beyond. Culling the VI harrowing has been made a self-appointed personal mission of Commander Cadmus Vallas, IX Legiones Astartes Blood Angels, whose forces felt the keen edge of the VI Harrowing blade at Hakesh, leaving them decimated. Petitioning to Sanguinius himself, Vallas now pursues the XX:VI with a fury bordering on obsession. However, at every turn, the XX:VI slip through the Blood Angels net like ghosts to reappear on an Imperial World shortly after any such engagement, ready to sow discord and destruction in the name of the Warmaster. Truly this appears to be one foe in which the legion's hydra iconography appears to be incredibly apt.

Only time will tell whether the thinly spread VI harrowing will one day over-reach itself and pay for their transgressions against the Emperor. However if anything their attacks appear to be accelerating with world after world feeling the executioners blade of the XX:VI falling for them and everything they hold dear.
