History

A shadow of mystery surrounds Omega Hydra. Little is know of its existence, secret to all but Asartes of the XXth legion and select human operatives. In place of the Alpha Legions XXth company and lead by Omegon himself, Omega Hydra is much bigger than standard Astartes company strength. The Hydra is broken down into many smaller groups. These Groups known as "Nests" or "Cells" can, if needed, operate independently, each having all necessary infrastructure in place for any eventuality that may occur, from Intelligence operatives embedded within Imperial and traitor factions to "sleeper" Headhunter and extraction teams held ready in a hibernation state until called upon. Depending on their task, each cell will have a specific organisation. Each with the ability to self support for an indefinite period of time. It has been known for more than one cell to combine for a certain task, only to split off again upon its completion. If the situation demands the whole of Omega Hydra will combine to complete a task. This very rarely happens as it leaves each of the Cells current tasks unattended. Only in extreme circumstances will Omegon call for "Olympus Protocol" to be put into effect. The last know instances of this was the prior to the Infiltration of the Raven Guard at Istvaan and following the compliance action at Nurth. Upon receiving Olympus orders, Hydra extraction teams deploy to retrieve operatives in the field or in extreme circumstances, Headhunter Kill teams under direct command of an Astartes (or more than one astartes) named Exodus are deployed to end missions early. Each group works directly to one of ten Cell Commanders, usually a Sub-praetor or Captain from the XXth legion, who reports to Praetor Tanos "The Viper" Nessus who is second only to Omegon. Each of the Cells Commanders communicate with each other as well as The Viper and Omegon, disseminating intelligence to all ranks of the Hydra via an intricate code system known as the Labyrinth, so no member of Omega Hydra is unaware of the situation.

In addition to the covert Cells in operation, Omega Hydras main force is a strike team code named "The Vipers Nest". Comprising of over one hundred Alpha Legion Astartes, including tactical, assault marines and various support elements from fast attack Jetbike squads to super heavy vehicles. The Vipers Nest conducts decapitation strikes on key enemy infrastructure and command echelons. Operating independently or as lead elements, taking out planetary defence, allowing the remainder of the legion to deploy uncontested.

Commanded by Praetor Tanos Nessus (although in larger operations Omegon himself) The Viper prefers leading from the front astride his Scimitar Jetbike surrounded by his command squad. The viper strikes with the speed and precision of his namesake, with the remainder of the Nest attacking with unparalleled destruction. Attacking from multiple directions causing disarray and confusion throughout the enemy ranks, with Alpha legion operatives embedded months earlier revealing themselves providing weaknesses for the Vipers Nest to exploit.

Allegiances of Omega Hydra and by extension Omegon, have been questionable of late. Seeming to move with their own agenda withholding vital intelligence and equipment that would further the Warmasters war effort. The future intentions of Omega Hydra remain unknown.
