Geography

Styx is a thriving Agriculture world, due to the high landmass to ocean ratio its primary produced products are terrestrial in nature. Styx is the only Agri-world in the Kildrech System, supplying all the food for the system as well exporting some to the Helix Cluster. Although the ocean only covers a small amount of the planetary mass specialist ocean grown products are harvested and these are supplied as premium goods to the other planets in the system and as exports.

Due to its level of biomass it would have made an ideal target for the Tyranid invasion; however it appears to have been untouched.

History

Unlike most of the planets in the Kildrech System, Styx has little to no mineral resources, which is the primary reason it was overlooked as the System capital when the Templars originally conquered the area in the name of the Emperor. Instead it is an exceptionally fertile planet which has near perfect orbit and lunar cycles to create rapid growing condition for its crops.Even before the planet was brought into the fold of the Imperium there were significant agricultural settlements scattered across its continents, but very little industry. The Imperium maintained this tendency and simply expanded the agricultural activities to encompass the planet’s entire surface and established distribution routes throughout the System and its neighbors.

Even as the System lost contact with the Imperium at large, the agricultural distribution continued, being largely automated space elevators and transport shuttles. The first major disruption of Styx’s network occurred with the Tyanid invasion, although not in a way which was expected.Being a planet made up entirely of rich biomass it was anticipated that Styx would be the primary target of the invading Tyranid fleet, the interception and devouring of the food shuttles appeared to confirm this. To counter this threat the remaining Imperial and Templar forces concentrated their efforts to fortify the planets orbit. However rather than invading the Agri planet, the Xenos forces instead made directly for Kildrech Prime, bypassing Styx completely.

Scrambling to redeploy the Imperial forces mobilised and went to the aid of the beleaguered system capital, taking nearly every able bodied person from Styx with them, leaving less than ten percent of the population on the planet.

Formal Imperial records on Styx end at that point, the remaining population lacking the technical knowledge or even ability to maintain them. From records taken from other planets, notably Kildrech Prime, it is none that the conscripted forces taken from Styx were wiped out during the offensive to retake the capital and no reinforcements were ever sent back to the Agri world. Why the Tyranids never invaded the planet, either initially or subsequently, remains a mystery, but one which was forgotten by the indigenous population as they rapidly reverted to a semi feudal/rural existence, continuing the farming of crops and loading of the space elevators ground stations out of habit, tradition and superstition.

Little changed over the following millennia, the planet eventually regained some technological abilities and started to spread to the rest of the system after numerous visits from Rogue Traders and other contacts with neighboring human colonies. With the recent arrival of the Kildrech Crusade, Styx is once again under Templar authority.

Culture

After the mass exodus of the planets population during the Tyranid invasion, Styx reverted to predominantly a Feudal state based around a rural life style. Without significant technological advancement or the understanding of their available technology the society maintained such a culture even through to current day. While aware of their existence within the greater scheme of things, the governing echelons of the planet keep the vast majority of the planet ignorant of such knowledge. This ensures an easy control mechanism on the worker population, effectively serfs, by ruling class. In addition this unintentionally aided in the transition of control to the Templars when they seized control of the Kildrech System.
