History

Battle Group Helios is a splinter force of Legio Invicta cut off from resupply and fighting behind enemy lines… Battle Group Helios was stationed on board the Macro Hauler Ferrum Invictus. It’s martial strength having been reduced to a single remaining Warlord, two Reaver class titans and six scouts. With the majority of their remaining strength in lighter engines, Battle Group Helios deployed most often as hunter killer packs of scout engines. Demi Maniple Mortem’s tactics have evolved into swift brutal attacks designed to decapitate or drive the enemy into the maw of the waiting Warlord and Reavers.

Prior to the Gomeiza Deployment or Execution KL450.4498X, Ferrum Invictus made contact with elements of Knight House Vyronii in deep orbit outside the Gomeiza system. Answering a wide band transmission on a classified frequency, known only to the allies of Legio Invictus, the knights of House Vyronii, under command of Scion Elsbet Vorr pledged to lend their strength to the Gomeiza Walk.

After the brutal Gomeiza campaign, Battlegroup Helios was badly in need of refit and rearmament. Ariana, a Loyalist Forge World in the D43 sub-sector, agreed to aid the Battlegroup and it's Knights in honor of the pacts of mutual support and protection that had existed between the two since the battles of Erestes Hive and The Ash Wastes. In those battles, the Battlegroup, including its House Vyronii Knights had been instrumental in driving the Warmaster's invasion forces from Ariana and returning the Forge to Loyalist Mechanicum control. Before long, Helios and the House Vyronii Knights were refit and ready for battle once more. It was not long before the call to action came once again.

Ariana received intelligence from the vassal Forges of the Purity system, located across the Archea nebula on the Diadem Frontier, that they were monitoring a sudden buildup of forces in the Diadem star cluster. This isolated area was home to the mysterious and newly-discovered Umbral Kingdom. Umbra Forge had refused to join the Imperium, insisting on maintaining it's independence at all costs. It appeared that, rather than sit idly by and wait for destruction at the hands of a Crusade Compliance Fleet, Umbra was going on the offensive.

Loyalist forces, including Battle Maniple Helios and the Knights of House Vyronii, immediately put to space and crossed the Archea nebula into the Diadem sub-sector. The Magi Tacticae of Purity V projected the Childriss System, a relative backwater on the edge Imperial-controlled space, as the likely destination for the Umbral Fleet and so the reinforcements from Ariana were rushed there as quickly as possible. They arrived to find the Umbral Second Fleet already in-system conducting landings and planetary bombardment of Childriss' principal world of Faroe. As the Loyalist fleet engaged the Umbral ships in orbit, macro-haulers, including Ferrum Invictus carrying Helios, performed combat drops right in the teeth of anti-orbital fire from Legio Revenantus Titans already on the ground. Legio Revenantus Battle Maniples had effected landings of their own in the sheltered valleys of Faroe's northern mountain range and were attempting to push out onto the costal plains and reduce Faroe's population centers, Childriss Center and Faroe Oceanus.
