Geography

Tarack is a frozen wasteland of ice. The whole landscape is a mass of crevasses and mountains of ice scoured by blizzards. To make things worse, every now and then there is a massive shift and new peaks are razed up or huge pits open underfoot.

It is theorized that some kind of volcanic activity deep beneath the surface is responsible for these shifts, but no probe has yet penetrated far enough into the planet to find out.

Even though there have been attempts at surface habitation on Tarack since its discovery in M38, No trace of these exist to the present day. The surface is as wild and unspoilt as it was since before the first colony vanished without a trace.

History

Despite the extremely hazardous environment, many expeditions have been made to the surface to harvest the rare chemical compounds contained in the ice. Such expeditions are always disastrous affairs, usually ending in the ruination and/or death of the explorers.

Tarack guards its secrets well. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, there is always someone fool enough to go there to try their luck.
