Greetings Grandmaster de Molay,

The war (as it is no longer a skirmish) continues to grow and has now engulfed the system. There are constant small scale raids and skirmishes occurring throughout the mining platforms and against ship convoys moving between them. As predicted, fighting has concentrated on the three strategic planets, with significant forces being deployed.

Quinto has been the least contested of the three key planets, with significant Phonicas forces being deployed in its defence, the Angels Radiant Astartes Chapter at the forefront. The Tau made a concerted attempt to gain multiple beachheads on the world which, all but one, were repulsed along with a number of other incursion attempts by elements of some rogue Eldar. Reports also indicate evidence of Necron and Tyranid activity on the planets surface.

Fearis is less secure after the Dark Angels contingent launched a surgical assault on the Phonicas defenders after a significant Tyranid force appeared on the planet. Although both forces have gained a foothold, the marines of the Angels Radiant remain the dominant force in control of Fearis on behalf of the Phonicas rebels, much to the fury of their parent Chapter, the Dark Angels. Partially consumed Eldar Corsairs bodies and wreckage has been found on the surface.

Lastly the most vital and heavily fought over, Waypoint K42, has proved to be a disaster for both Imperial sides with the planet rapidly becoming inaccessible due to a huge infestation of Tyranids, appearing to have been originally herded by a potent Tau force. Whilst the marines fighting for the Phonicas system made a valiant stand, the combined attacks from both Necron and Chaos Marine elements made the defence of the planet impossible. Our Death Korps allies in the area have been silent for some time.

The loss of K42 is a significant blow for all forces within the core system, meaning that reinforcements and wide redeployments from outside of the Phonicas system are going to be delayed. The cause of the loss is even more concerning, whilst Tau and Tyranid elements had been confirmed earlier, it appears that the Tau were attempting to herd or funnel the Tyranid forces to their benefit, and whilst they have had some initial success, it is clear that they have now lost control of their Xenos host.

One positive outcome of the increased attacks in the outer system has been that many of our marine allies were able to infiltrate the Gateway, the orbital defence facilities surrounding Phonicas prime. In addition to this a number of Astartes forces already posted on the orbiting stations have declared that the war has turned heretical and that the entity must be destroyed before the system is consumed.

For the first time since I arrived in the system the orbital defence grid is now fractured. If we are able to seize control of a number of the control stations we will be able to create a safe avenue for our forces to make planetfall. I still doubt we will have enough naval supremacy to initiate Exterminatus with the Quintus.

Meanwhile the entity itself has grown in considerable power, its presence in the warp whilst potent, is shielded by the tremendous numbers of pykers it has surrounding it. The Navigator on board the Quintus has told me that he suspects the energy is now strong enough to act as a minute version of the Astronomicon for the surrounding system.

The potential for such a force is astounding, if this is indeed the reincarnation of a saint it could be the foundation of an entire expansion of the Eastern Fringe! However my pessimism overrides my dreams, the ramifications if this force is an agent of Chaos is equally frightening; a mass Daemon incursion? The incarnation of a powerful warp entity? Or, Emperor protect us, a new Eye of Terror?

This is not even considering what could happen in a Tyranid swarm consumes the planet...

Your faithful Imperial Servant,

Inquisitor Teahl Feofferson
