Battle Summary

After series of counter-stokes which culminated in the inconclusive First Battle of the Stredha Yards, Warsmith Krios Dracontites 64th Grand Battalion was quickly withdrawn from offensive operations to deal with a Loyalist spearhead aiming to strike at the Ferrumskrag's curtain wall from the south-east. This sector was poorly defended as the Warmaster's forces had stripped it severely to strengthen their counteroffensives, and the weakness was discovered by Loyalist reconnaissance, a weakness they intended to exploit.

The Throne's spearhead was formed by veteran elements of the Iron Hands Legion, a force that had proven spectacularly effective during the early Battles of the Outer Fortifications. Their plan was to daze and disrupt the defenders with the extensive use of Deathstorm Drop Pods before a force of Terminators and Veterans closely supported by Vindicator Assault Guns would drive off the Traitors and breach the curtain wall.

The defenders were mainly made up elements of the 27th Volgan Auxilia Regiment supported by the 2nd Volgan Heavy Tank Battalion. Luckily for them, a small contingent of Tyrant Siege Terminators were inspecting the state of the southern approaches at that time and were rapidly redeployed to support the Auxilia. Meanwhile, the major part of the 64th Grand Battalion were racing to return from the attack at Stredha Yards, although at best they were a few hours away.

The initial attack succeeded in catching the Traitors unawares, the Deathstorm Pods wreaking havoc on the poorly-trained Volgans, although the watchful eye of anti-retreat troops behind the line prevented any retreat. The Loyalists were however surprised by the appearance of the Siege Terminators as their Cyclone Missile Launchers took a heavy toll on the advancing Xth Legion Armour. The Iron Hands brought up their Assault Guns to deal with the Terminators, and after several Demolisher shells thinned their ranks, the advance continued.

However, the delay caused by the tenacious defence of the Terminators and Auxilia allowed enough time for the major part of the 64th Grand Battalion to arrive on the scene and the Loyalist spearhead was caught in a pincer of Land Raider mounted Breachers and Cybernetica Castellax Maniples. Their main assault blunted and their spearhead crushed, the Loyalists had no choice but to retreat from the battlefield.
