Having smashed the Mechanicum defenders days previously, the Squat relief force joined up with the beleaguered expedition led by Hersir Grimnir. With the immediate area around Docking Bay 94 secured, the next objective was to scout out their surroundings, gathering whatever resources could be gained from the zone and eliminating any resistance.

Pushing into the darkened holding bays beyond the docks, the Squat forces adopted a speartip formation as they probed ahead. They quickly took refuge in the abandoned hulk of a control room as they sighted the heat-flare signature of machines and life forms ahead. Before they could dispatch scouts to reconnoiter, shots rang out. The Squats ducked down behind their makeshift defences and returned fire.

A full blown firefight quickly erupted, filling the holding bay with streams of lethal high-energy trails and solid shots from bigger bore weaponry. Revealing themselves, Mechanicum walkers began to stride purposefully forward while spindly automata scurried around their feet.

In amongst the hail of fire, a scrambled mix of orders came in to Grimnir's vox-receiver. He despatched his forces to meet each new command, but was thwarted many times as the Mechanicum foot soldiers grabbed the same objectives moments before they could seize them.

As the dust settled and the Mechanicum constructs withdrew, Grimnir surveyed the holding bay and the tally of his forces. His losses were small, though his own forces had also only managed to inflict minor damage to the enemy. As for the resources he had hoped to plunder, the Squat commander realised with grim disappointment that the Mechanicum forces had thwarted him once again. It had almost been as though they knew his plans, even before he did. We're they intercepting his command-vox traffic?

Or was there a ghost in the machine?
